Zanzibar
The Proof That Changed Everything
A remote village. A decentralized network. Thousands connected. The first chapter in the World Mobile revolution.

Offline by Design. Connected by Choice
This fishing village in Zanzibar was disconnected not by geography, but by economics. The cost of connecting a few hundred people didn’t fit the traditional telecom model. That’s where we came in.

What we built.
By harnessing solar-powered AirNodes and hybrid unlicensed spectrum, we delivered a wireless network at a fraction of the cost of legacy systems, no cables, no compromise.
- Working with a local partner, we extended fiber optic backhaul 65km from the nearest connection point, then relayed coverage via a mesh of AirNodes to reach every corner of the village.
- Now, in a place where the nearest town is hours away, fishermen can message buyers, students can access online learning, and the community is no longer offline, it’s on the map, and on the grid.
From One Village to an Entire Island
Scaling the Proof of Concept
What started as a single smart village, with one AirNode and one bold idea, quickly became the foundation for something far bigger.
- The success of our first deployment in Zanzibar proved that decentralized mobile infrastructure works, not in theory, but in practice. The results spoke for themselves: high network uptime, community adoption, and real economic impact.
- That was the turning point.
- On the back of this success, we scaled our rollout across the island, deploying over 400 AirNodes and connecting more than 20,000 customers in one of the most ambitious decentralized telecom expansions to date.
