From Memecoin to Mobile Operator: Toshi Introduces Decentralized MVNO on World Mobile

Introducing Toshi Mobile: the first third-party decentralized mobile network that uses World Mobile’s DMVNE infrastructure.

Helmed by Toshi, one of the largest communities on Base, Toshi Mobile moves World Mobile’s white-label, onchain mobile service from concept to commercial reality, opening an entirely new growth vertical for the company.

A waitlist for the service is available to join at toshi.worldmobile.io.

In this post, we’ll break down what Toshi Mobile is, how the DMVNE model works, and why this matters for users, builders, and the future of decentralized telecom.

What is Toshi Mobile?

Toshi Mobile is a branded Decentralized Mobile Virtual Network Operator (DMVNO) led by the Toshi community, a popular memecoin built on the Base blockchain.

They’ve taken a revolutionary step for a crypto project: introducing a full-fledged mobile offering using World Mobile telecommunications network infrastructure.

Toshi Mobile is powered by World Mobile’s Decentralized Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (DMVNE) technology and is connected to World Mobile Chain. That means onchain transparency, secure identity, and community control from day one.

Why Communities Want Their Own Networks

Communities like Toshi already generate significant user engagement. Fans hold the token, buy the merch, and attend the spaces. But their mobile spend still flows to legacy carriers - centralized telecom providers that monetize user data without redistributing value.

On the other side, MVNOs like Trump Mobile and SmartLess Mobile show that there is clear demand for community-centric connectivity.

Toshi Mobile takes the model further by putting core mobile functions onchain using World Mobile’s infrastructure to ensure user data remains private while making network activity verifiable and programmable.

By owning the network layer, communities gain a new kind of leverage: the ability to align user engagement, digital identity, and economic participation under a single service.

How World Mobile’s DMVNE Model Works

World Mobile’s DMVNE (Decentralized Mobile Virtual Network Enabler) is a full-stack, carrier-as-a-service platform. It allows brands and communities to launch their own mobile networks without the typical CapEx, delays, or complexity of traditional MVNOs.

Partners bring the brand and audience. World Mobile provides:

  • Plug-and-play licensing
  • Pre-negotiated carrier deals, and access to World Mobile AirNodes, covering 99% of the U.S. population
  • Integrated global roaming across over 70 countries
  • A vertically integrated stack that spans:
  • Global-ready eSIM provisioning
  • OSS/BSS billing systems
  • KYC, tax, and regulatory compliance
  • Tier-1 support infrastructure

Under the hood, data traffic flows through AirNodes for last-mile access and is immutably logged by EarthNodes on World Mobile Chain. That means usage is verifiable, private, and fully onchain, enabling real-time dashboards, transparent accounting, and rewards powered by cryptographic proofs.

For partners, it’s simple: bring the brand and community. World Mobile handles the rest.

An Industry in Growth Mode

Analyst reports estimate the global MVNO market was worth approximately $79 billion in 2023, with projected growth of around 8 percent CAGR through 2030 (P&S Intelligence).

As eSIM adoption lowers switching friction and brands search for new ways to build loyalty, more communities are expected to explore white-label wireless. The World Mobile DMVNE model removes traditional capital expenditure hurdles and adds programmable incentives, positioning community-owned connectivity as a natural next step in both the telecom and Web3 sectors.

Why This Matters

This offering is a significant step for World Mobile and for Web3 at large.

It’s the first time our DMVNE stack has been used to power a third-party mobile network. Toshi didn’t need to build telecom infrastructure from scratch. They tapped into ours, configured their own experience, and are bringing a mobile offering to their users under their own brand.

This unlocks a new model for crypto-native communities, creators, and brands to expand into telecom. The opportunity is big:

  • The telco market is worth over $1.5 trillion, with strong global growth
  • Communities are looking for new ways to provide utility to their members

By deploying on the World Mobile Chain, Toshi Mobile contributes to more users, more data, and more onchain activity. It’s a real-world use case, not a hypothetical.

“Toshi Mobile shows that connectivity can be owned by the many, not the few. Any project with an engaged audience can now turn that energy into recurring value.”
– Micky Watkins, CEO, World Mobile
