Chapter 6: Agents and Hosts: Building Together Inside a Hex

Chapter 6: Agents and Hosts: Building Together Inside a Hex

In the previous chapter, we explored the role of the affiliate dashboard in earning early subscribers and expanding the World Mobile network in a particular Hex. But Hex Operators are not alone on this journey. The Network Builder platform is designed to empower collaboration. Agents and Hosts work alongside Operators, adding capacity, skills, and real-world assets that accelerate growth.

This chapter introduces both roles in detail: how they join, how approvals work, and how communication flows between people working on the same Hex.

Think of this chapter as the team assembly stage. Operators set directions. Agents and Hosts provide support that makes execution faster and more effective.

The Agent role

What is an Agent?

An Agent is a participant who proposes to support a specific Hex. Agents are approved by the Hex Operator to help expand coverage, encourage adoption, and catalyze community activity. Each proposal an Agent submits is per Hex; an Agent must apply separately to work in each Hex.

Agents take on one of several roles:

  • Site Scout – Identify and recommend suitable buildings or sites for deployment
  • Installer – Install, configure, and maintain AirNodes
  • Sales Activator – Drive local subscriber adoption and community engagement
  • Affiliate Marketer – Leverage affiliate codes to grow subscriber numbers
  • Municipal Liaison – Support with permits, permissions, and local authority engagement
  • Other – If your contribution does not fit a listed role, you may describe the role you desire in your application

How to apply as an Agent

Step 1: Find the Hex you want to support
Navigate to the relevant Hex and open its Detail View.

Step 2: Submit your Agent proposal
Complete the form with:

  • Your name and email
  • Your chosen role(s)
  • A short proposal describing your contribution
  • A proposed revenue-share arrangement

Notes:

  • Proposals are submitted per Hex
  • Proposals should be concise: one section on scope, one on expected outcomes

Step 3: Hex Operator review
Your proposal appears in the Hex Operator’s dashboard. The Operator can:

  • View your details and proposed arrangement
  • Approve, modify, or decline the proposal
  • Message you directly for clarification

Step 4: Verification (if applicable)
If your proposal includes compensation, you must complete KYC or KYB before any rewards can be paid.

Step 5: Agree on final terms
Commercial terms are agreed directly between you and the Hex Operator. The platform supports coordination and record-keeping but does not enforce commercial agreements.

Step 6: Start contributing
As an approved Agent, you gain access to communication tools and coordination resources tied to the Hex.

What Operators see

  • Pending proposals from Agents per Hex
  • Status controls: approve, request changes, decline
  • Messaging threads with each Agent

The Host role

What is a Host?

A Host is anyone who offers a physical location where an AirNode can be deployed. Hosts are essential to coverage growth. They provide rooftops, building access, or suitable sites, then coordinate with Operators on AirNode installation.

How to become a Host

Step 1: Open the Host view
Select Becoming a Host from the platform menu to view eligible areas.

Step 2: Pinpoint your location
Select your building or enter its address manually. Add floor count or access notes if relevant.

Step 3: Submit the Host form

Provide:

  • Building details
  • Your name and email
  • Contact information for coordination

This creates a pending Host record tied to the Operator of that Hex.

Step 4: Operator review
The Operator reviews your submission, may request clarifications, and either approves or declines.

Step 5: Approved Host status
Once approved, you:

  • Gain a direct communication channel with the Operator
  • Coordinate installation and safe access
  • Receive updates related to installation and operation

How communication works

All roles communicate within the Network Builder platform.

  • Agents and Hosts can view their status (Pending, Approved, Declined) and message the Hex Operator
  • Operators manage proposals, approvals, and coordination
  • Threads are tied to specific Hexes, keeping communication contextual and organized

Closing note

The Network Builder platform is not a solo venture. Operators chart the course and drive the business, but growth accelerates when others play their part. Agents bring expertise. Hosts bring sites. Together, they form the operational foundation of a decentralized telecom business.

Every proposal, approval, and deployment strengthens the network, one Hex at a time.
